What to Wear on Vacation: Daytime Edition

February 13, 2018

If you guys follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I had surgery last week. It’s nothing bad or scary… it’s totally a good thing, and I will be sharing all those details on the blog in upcoming weeks. But what I wanted to share with you today is that I am going STIR CRAZY! I’m trying to follow doctor’s orders and rest, but it’s really hard. I haven’t left the house since last Thursday! And why is it that when I have time to read and watch T.V. … I can’t find anything to read or any shows to watch. I finally solved the problem by starting to read the Harry Potter series. That will keep me busy for a while, and it’s about as complicated as I can handle right now. Oh, and I’ve been catching up on the Kardashians. It’s really high-brow over here. 😉

So basically I’m screaming for a vacation- preferably somewhere warm and tropical… which brings me to today’s fun post in collaboration with Nordstrom. I’m sharing all my favorite items to wear on vacation. I had to make this a two-part series because I have WAY too much stuff I want to share with you guys. Any guesses on whether I am an over-packer or under-packer? 🙂 Today’s post covers all my favorite items to get you through your vacation during the day time. The second post will cover all my favorite evening essentials so stay tuned.

Let’s start with luggage. Is it just me or is luggage so much more fun to buy lately… and so much more affordable? A few years ago, my husband and I decided we were grown up’s who needed to invest in some proper luggage. We splurged on the suitcase of my dreams which cost around $800, and it was so ginormous that anytime it was packed it was at least 10 pounds over. Which resulted in additional charges. That suitcase fell apart after just a few short plane rides. Nowadays there are so many cute options and you can get a decent set for a few hundred dollars.

I recently purchased this carry-on spinner and I couldn’t be happier! I am definitely going to buy the larger version… I wanted to give the smaller size a test run before I fully committed. I am smitten! The carry-on fits so much stuff and glides like a dream. This same carry-on just came out in a new teal color which couldn’t be more perfect for an island getaway.

One of my favorite things to shop for is swimwear. At one time I wanted to design swimwear so I am an absolute fanatic! The lemon print is a huge trend for spring/ summer, and this printed one-piece is easy to throw on. Great for moms who are running around with their kids at the pool or beach. Layer with a great pair of denim cutoffs like this Frame pair (love the tassel detailing!) and you are good to go!

Swimwear doesn’t take up much space in luggage so that’s something you can’t over pack. I always make sure I have a good combination of one pieces and bikinis. This black high-waisted bikini bottom is a great piece to mix and match with other swim tops to create multiple looks. These bottoms are so flattering, have so many amazing reviews. When I read the reviews, I just had to try them for myself! I’m wearing a small and feel like they run true to size. These cinch in your waist and make your butt look amazing!

I always tend to over-pack when it comes to hats and unfortunately those can be a pain to travel with. And if I’m being completely honest with myself, I usually end up wearing only one or two. I have been looking for a great Panama style hat, and this one has been on my radar for a while. It’s a splurge but something I know I will get a ton of wear out of so I’m okay with it. You really want to pack your hats with care to avoid damaging the shape. I usually stack up my hats and carry them on in an over-sized beach bag on the plane.

The second thing I over pack is shoes. And again I maybe wear half of what I bring! Ideally you want to bring sandals that can take you from beach to evening. Like this Gucci pair! Works just as well with a bathing suit and a maxi dress. I just purchased these sandals in black, but I haven’t worn then yet and debating on exchanging for same pair in white (see below). What do you guys think? I’m torn!

In this post I styled two different outfits I would wear to the beach or pool. I couldn’t resist rounding up all my very favorite pieces below.

one. | two. | three. | four. | five. | six. | seven. | eight. | nine. | ten.

Hope you guys enjoyed today’s post! Nordstrom has so many great pieces to take on your next vacation. You can check it all out here! It’s always a pleasure collaborating with Nordstrom because it is my favorite place to shop!

A big THANK YOU to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

xo, Missy
