I have said it before, and I will say it again… I am a dress kind of girl. I have more dresses than anything else, and my go-to look is a dress and sandals (since I live in Orange County and it’s only cold maybe 2 months out of the year). My favorite thing to throw on in the evenings over my dresses is a denim jacket. Maybe it’s because I am a child of the 90’s that I am such a huge fan of denim jackets. I love this one by YMI for its cute cropped length and lighter shade of denim. Because the jacket is cropped, it allows the cut-out detailing on the back of the maxi dress to peek out. The price point on this cropped denim jacket is great, and it’s an easy item to throw in your beach bag or grab for date night.

Let’s talk about this maxi dress. It’s one of those cheapie ones that is mailed to you from overseas. When I ordered it, I wasn’t expecting a lot. But the funny thing is, I am constantly reaching for this dress, and anytime I wear it I get loads of compliments. I have this weird habit of “saving” the more expensive investment pieces in my closet and wearing my more affordable pieces all the time. I am really trying to break this habit, and believe me it is a habit.

You might have noticed while my dress and jacket are more affordable pieces, I paired with investment sandals and bag. It still boggles my mind how much adding in even one designer piece instantly makes the entire outfit look more expensive. There really is an art form to mixing and matching high-end pieces with affordable items. For me, if I see someone dressed head to toe in designer-wear it’s just a bit much and maybe looks a little old. The trend right now is to blend the highs and lows together so it looks chic and obtainable. For the most part, I try and splurge on those items that I can wear again and again. So for me that’s mostly bags and shoes. I take really good care of my bags. Whenever I am not using them, I put them in their drawstring protective bags. The great thing about designer bags and shoes is that they really retain their value so they can be a good investment.

This week was a really special one for Sapphire Diaries because it was her 1 year birthday. If you missed the anniversary post, you can catch it here. Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a fantastic weekend!!!
