Can you believe it’s September already? I keep seeing pictures pop up on my Instagram and Facebook with kids holding 1st day of school signs (which is so cute BTW but kinda stresses me with added mom pressure LOL), and I am in disbelief. Is it just me, or does school start earlier in the year than when we were in school? Max will start early preschool in a few weeks when he turns 2 years 9 months, and I am both looking forward to and dreading it. It will be amazing to have “me” time and be able to focus on my blog without interruption for a few hours (I can’t even imagine!). At the same time, I am so used to having my little buddy with me all the time, it will be so weird… and probably a little lonely. Whenever I leave Max with my husband while I do errands, I find myself responding to sales people or the grocery checkout person as “we.” “Like, oh yeah we are doing good,” when I am totally by myself haha. I have been lucky that I have been able to stay at home with Max these past few years, and he really is an independent little man who is over the moon excited about school. I have never even heard such a thing! When I took him to his new school for a 15 activity visit, he was literally in tears because he didn’t want to leave. School has become my husband and my best bargaining technique- like if you want to go to school, you need to do xyz. So basically Max is ready for school whether I am or not.
Anyway, it is September, and September’s birthstone is the sapphire. and I thought there was no better time to talk about why I named my blog Sapphire Diaries and pay a little tribute with this sapphire photo shoot which was taken in the Monterey Pines in Cambria and was M A G I C A L.
My blog is still pretty new. I have been blogging for a little over 4 months now, and I feel kind of late to the game. And I have to admit what held me up the most from getting my blog up and running was choosing a name. If you are a blogger or aspiring blogger, maybe you feel my pain. I seriously had pages of scribbled ideas, adjectives, and feelings that I brainstormed to come up with a name. I would get really into it, thinking about it nonstop, and then give up and put it aside for a month or two. Repeat cycle.
I knew what I wanted my blog to be about- primarily a place for fashion inspiration, and I wanted my blog’s name to tie into that somehow. My birthday is in September, and I am a Libra, and while I am not a huge horoscope person I remember reading about a Libra’s fashion sense and shopping personality and it described me to a T. And what do you know, I am a huge fan of blue so it works. Yep, it’s as simple as that! And Sapphire Diaries sort of reminds me of Vampire Diaries and obvi that’s a good thing. 🙂
So let’s talk about this amazing little sapphire dress. I love that this dress is such a vivid shade of blue. You don’t see a lot of lace dresses with such delicate feminine detailing in a shade like this. The shape of this dress is also very interesting because the skirt really swings out- you have to click on the link to really see what I mean. This dress is like a work of art, and it is reasonably priced. We literally shot these photos in the forest. We were vacationing in Cambria this past weekend, and these pictures were take in the Monterey pines. My family has a beach house in Cambria that we have been going to since I was a kid, and some of my best childhood memories are from there. I got to take Max there for the first time ever, and it was really neat to share the experience with him and of course he loved it.
I have to laugh at the second to the last picture where I am cracking up. My photographer had given me the direction to look around at the trees and act like I was talking to an animal in the tree, and I totally felt like Claire from Bachelor in Paradise talking to the raccoon. I am sure I looked like an absolute lunatic and started busting up. Anyone out there watching Bachelor in Paradise? It is literally the most dramatic, uneventful show ever. And I love it!!!
Coming to the blog soon is a round-up of some of my favorite places to visit and things to do in Cambria, and there might be a special guest in my photos. Can you guess who?
Thanks for reading, and I hope you will come back and visit soon!
xx Missy
