Today is a special little milestone for Sapphire Diaries. It is the three month anniversary! And don’t worry I don’t plan on celebrating on a monthly basis. 😉 I thought this would be a good time to share my thoughts on starting a fashion & lifestyle blog and my overall experience so far. Maybe you are reading because you are thinking about starting your own blog but have something holding you back. My mom was actually the biggest influencer for me to start my own blog. She is an amazing food blogger (check out her blog here). I was intrigued by the idea of starting a blog, but I wasn’t fully committed for a long time… mostly because Max was challenging when he was younger and required my full attention. I had my reasons for wanting to start a fashion blog in particular (which you can read about here). I can’t even remember what tipped the scale, but at some point I was all in and have never looked back.

I am excited to say that I absolutely love it. I feel lucky to do something that I love, and it is amazing to be able to satisfy my creative side, in addition to being a stay at home mom. One unexpected positive benefit has been the friendships I have made in the blogger community. It’s fun to connect with other bloggers who start around the same time and share your experiences. The toughest thing has been the time commitment. It requires a juggling act, especially when you have a child (or a job). But blogging doesn’t feel like work to me. It’s just fun (most of the time). I already spent a lot of time browswing my favorite online retailors, and it’s nice to have a purpose now while I do it.

The number one question I get asked about my blog (and you might be wondering the same thing yourself) is- do you buy all of the clothes? The answer is… yes! I love fashion, and clothing is a form of creative expression for me. Anything I wear or promote on my blog is stuff I would buy and wear myself. At times, designers may choose to gift certain items to bloggers and if that were the case it would be noted.

I am excited to talk about what might be one of my favorite outfits I have posted so far, but before I move on I just wanted to say if you are interested in learning more of the behind the scenes of running a fashion blog feel free to make comments below.

One of the first outfits I posted on my blog was a matching separates outfit (see post on it here), and I am still loving this trend for summer. This set by Clayton is my favorite because of the off the shoulder top and midi skirt length (and the price is reasonable too!). To up the matchy matchy factor, I even matched my lipstick- MAC Toxic Tale, one of my favorites and the perfect orangey red.

One of my favorite purchases of the summer is my Stuart Weitzman espadrilles. Espadrilles are the prefect summer shoe. They go with almost everything, and because off the toe platform, they are surprisingly comfortable despite their height. I had been eyeing them for a while but was on the fence mostly because I am already over 5’8 and was worried that these would make me a giant. Then I read that the Duchess of Cambridge wore these exact shoes, and she is 5’9, and that gave me the push I needed to buy them. I am so glad I did. My husband has never been a fan of espadrilles (men!), but he actually ended up liking them too.

Thanks for reading, and have a fabulous week!

xx Missy
