Blogger Office Reveal

January 19, 2018

I am completely giddy to share my new home office that I’ve been working on with House of Jade Interiors for the last few months! It couldn’t be better timing since in January I am especially ripe for change, bettering myself, and getting more organized. There are still a few tweaks I need to make- the built-in drawer hardware is supposed to be brass. I need to figure out how to hide the computer wire since my desk is in the center of the room, and I want to hang more artwork. But for the most part it’s DONE! Make sure to scroll all the way down for the before + after, design board, and a complete list of sources!

P.S. This ladder gives me life….

This gorgeous desk is a show-stopper and spacious enough to fit all my stuff! The look can be easily changed with paint, and this is a heirloom piece I will have forever. It is called the Colette Desk by Ave Home. It sells out all the time so you have to be diligent about checking back (there was a while I couldn’t get my hands on it!) but some of the places I’ve seen it sold are here and here, and love it in black here!)

Love these brass shadow boxes to organize and store your pretties! Chad got me these bracelets on our last trip to Hawaii so they are super special and love having them on display. P.S. I highly recommend this book!

I’ve had my new blogger office for about a week now, and I can’t even tell you how much more productive and efficient I’ve been. It’s crazy! I think I tell my husband that every other day at least, and he always answers I told you so.

When I first started my blog, I worked a majority of the time from my laptop in bed. And if I am being completely honest with something mindless on in the background like Kardashians or Housewives. Not the most productive setting to say the least!

As my blog got busier, I graduated from the bedroom to the kitchen counter. My back was starting to hurt from working from the bed. We have a counter bench set up at our kitchen countertop (it’s so fun!), and it was a cozy set-up with a candle lit, the news on in the background, and the dishwasher running. You can see a peek of my kitchen workspace here! The pluses were I got more work done and had better posture, but I still didn’t realize it wasn’t optimal. I had to set up and then take down my workspace every day #neatfreak and was always having to run upstairs to grab a notebook, my planner, or a receipt, or whatever since I didn’t have storage handy.

It was clear I needed a dedicated workspace. Our home is colonial style with a lot of rooms, but they are all on a smaller scale. When you come in through the front door, our dining room is to the immediate right and the playroom to the left. So when you walk into my home, the first thing you saw was the playroom and it was ALWAYS a mess.

Some days I would spend hours reorganizing and staging everything in the playroom so it looked cute, but almost by the end of the day it would be a mess. And the funny thing is no one spent much time in there! That’s when I got the idea in my head to turn the playroom into my office. And how we were able to integrate the toys from playroom into the rest of the house is another story for another day. 😉

I love home interiors and feel like I have a knack for design and putting things together. I even attended an interior design school for a bit. But I feel like my downfall is that while I am able to find great pieces, I have a hard time sticking to an overall cohesive design. I am more detail oriented and lack the big picture. I’ve recently learned that not every piece has to have a wow factor and the best design is when the overall space works together.

The cool thing is that nowadays you can work with major interior designers, even if they aren’t local. It’s called e-design, and that’s how I connected with House of Jade Interiors on this project. You should check out their Instagram (goals!). One of the main benefits of e-design is that it is usually more affordable and again you can work with designers all over the country. You aren’t limited to your local area.

This is what the space looked like before. We had already removed much of the playroom stuff, and the room had a few random pieces in it. Story of my life! 🙂

and after…

The built-in shelving is the game changer. After initially talking to House of Jade Interiors about my needs, it was clear that was the best route. It gives me optimal storage space- with some closed cabinets for hiding more stuff. haha.

The built-in’s also make great use of the smaller space and make my office feel bigger. I knew I wanted a WOW feature, and that feature was going to be a rolling ladder. I am a total book nerd and love to read, and I plan on filling the highest shelf with my hardcovers. The rolling ladder gives me all the Belle vibes. Which btw I finally saw the new Beauty and the Beast, and it is SO GOOD!

The other must-have’s for the room were a desk of course, a floor mirror for outfit selfies, and some discreet toy storage. I shared some inspiration via Pinterest with House of Jade, and this is the design board they came up with:

The desk is by Ave Home, and it is an heirloom piece. The details and workmanship are top notch, and it is HUGE! I have so much room on my desk space to have my planner, notebook, MAC desktop, two trays, etc. etc. It comes as unfinished wood, and the beauty is in the future I can paint it to achieve a completely different look.

I had been eyeing this floor mirror for years and am so glad we made it work even though it is extremely tight for the space. This blue velvet chair is literally the chair of my dreams. It has the cutest brass hardware detail in the back (and it comes in a two other different colors). It was the perfect pop of blue for my Sapphire Diaries office.

My new office has been a DREAM, and now my only challenge is trying not to make it a habit to sneak off to quickly check emails when I am supposed to be making dinner or doing dishes.

If you guys are interested, I can work on a post on how I keep my office organized- like sharing the insides of my desk, filing system, receipts (UGH), etc. Please comment below if interested! Keep scrolling down for sources!

Thank you for stopping by, and have a terrific weekend! xo

A big THANK YOU to House of Jade for collaborating on this project!
